J411/12 combines a thematic study of long‑term public health and social history in Britain (the “People’s Health” theme, from around 1250 to the present) with a British depth study of a specific period: the era of the Elizabethan era (1580–1603).
The aim is to give students both breadth (through many centuries of health, living‑conditions, disease, social change) and depth (through detailed study of Elizabethan England — politics, religion, society, culture). This combination helps them to see long‑term patterns’s interplay with more focused historical change and continuity.
